FREE English Classes (ESL) – WASC Accredited

Now enrolling for the 2026-2027 School Year! Classes start August 11, 2026!

English classes are offered at Charles A. Jones Career and Education Center to help people new to the country attain a better grasp of the English language. 

We offer all levels of English instruction and students are placed into the appropriate English literacy level according to their combined CASAS reading, CAJ speaking, and CAJ writing assessment score taken during mandatory Orientation and Intake. 

HOW TO GET STARTED:

Please fill out this registration form (click the link) to attend English Classes at CAJ. Then come and take your CASAS reading assessment before enrolling at the Main Office. 

English Classes offered for 2026-2027:

Online (Multilevel) score is 190 - 227 

M/W from 12:30pm - 3:00pm

M/W from 5:30pm - 8:00pm

Literacy score is 189 or below

Monday from 12:30pm - 3:00pm

Wednesday from 12:30pm - 3:00pm

Friday from 9:00am - 11:30am

Friday from 12:30pm - 2:30pm

Beginning Low score is 190 – 196

M/W/F from 9:00am - 11:30am

M/W/F from 12:00pm - 2:30pm

T/TH/F from 9:00am - 11:30am

T/TH/F from 12:00pm - 2:30pm

Beginning High score is 197 – 206

M/W/F from 9:00am - 11:30am

M/W/F from 12:00pm - 2:30pm

Intermediate Low score 207 – 216

Intermediate High score is 217 – 227 (student can choose to be enrolled in online Adult Basic Education classes or remain in English classes)

Advanced score is 228 – 238 and students will be enrolled into the online Adult Basic Education class.

Outreach English Classes are held at Earl Warren, Oakridge, and Cesar Chavez Elementary Schools (times and days vary and children must attend one of the schools to participate in the Outreach English Class).

There will be no children permitted during testing, orientation, or class so please arrange childcare.
