Charles A. Jones Career and Education Center (CAJ) was authorized
in 1967 and operates under the governance of the State of
California Department of Education (CDE) and the Sacramento City
Unified School District (SCUSD).
CAJ opened in 1967 as the Skills and Business Education Center
and classes were held in various locations until 1968 when the
former site of the California State Fairs grounds was donated to
SCUSD for vocational training classes. The site was sold in
1999 and the site was relocated to its current site at 5451 Lemon
Hill Avenue, Sacramento, California in April of 1999 where
classes continue to be held.
CAJ career training programs graduated their first students in
1968. The first students who began classes at the new
facility completed occupational programs in June of 1999.
CAJ is under the auspices of the Sacramento City Unified School
District and the California Department of Education.
The delivery system utilized in the vocational programs at CAJ
varies depending upon the program and the needs and learning
styles of the students served. All classes use face-to-face
instruction with only supplemental online components when
appropriate.
